Arthrotec is a new anti-inflammatory medication that was designed for patients who might otherwise not be able to take anti- inflammatory medication because of stomach problems. This medication is another member of the so-called NSAID family of medications.

It is said to have significantly fewer ulcer problems in high risk patients.

It's action is said to be the inhibition of inflammatory prostaglandins in the joints. The core anti-inflammatory medication, diclofenac Na, is covered by a protective ultramantel and also by a protective enteric coating.

The medication comes in two strengths, 50mg and 75mg. It is taken by the patient three times per day. The dose of course would depend on what was prescribed by the physician.

It's indication, therefore, is in the patient with a high risk of development of gastrointestinal problems. Even though the risk of serious GI toxicity is significantly reduced with Arthrotec, bleeding, ulceration, and perforation may still occur.
